Come Learn With Us

OMO is a non-profit community organization founded to support the mental and emotional health of our neighbors, near and far, by providing a social environment where children, teens, & adults can learn together in volunteer-led sessions on a variety of subjects.
Upcoming Events
Scorpion Speaker Series
On Fridays, inspiring community members come to Oakland Mills High School to share their life, work, and experiences with students and staff. These presentations and conversations connect people, building appreciation and empathy, and inspiring others. If you see it, you can be it. Learn more: Scorpion Speaker Series page

Volunteers Needed for the 2024-2025 School Year!
The Scorpion Speaker Series gives community members a chance to talk about their lives, their work, and their identities in small group settings where students are encouraged to be curious and ask questions. By sharing their lived experiences, community members, neighbors, and fellow students may inspire a student to explore a certain career or leadership role for themselves that they had never considered. Learn more about the Speaker Series and how to volunteer.

Why do you like OMO? Quotes from the socially-distant days
Faye - "I appreciate OMO for providing a place to feel connected - not just for the kids but the whole family. The news has been like a broken record on this point but we are living in unprecedented times - we are all making it up as we go. I love that OMO provides a space to find some normalcy, connection or even some well-needed laughter in what is otherwise a pretty scary time."
Levi, age 7- "You can learn new things while not even trying to self distance!!!"
Amelia, age 9- "All of the instructors are very nice and kind. And all of the subjects are very interesting."

Katie - "My child interacts with her community and has other people to engage with - some are teachers. That’s crucial right now. She picks the sessions that interest her, and that helps give her independence with her schedule. Both parents are working from home. We rely on OMO for normalcy and community."
