December: Disabilities Awareness Month

Disabilities Awareness Month builds understanding of how different abilities come together in a community. We can work together to increase access and inclusion for everyone in our schools, offices, public spaces, and beyond.

National Disabilities Awareness Month is celebrated in March and National Disability Employment Awareness Month is in October, so OMO chose December. We will share resources here, and host Scorpion Speaker Series events, related to all forms of disabilities.

Chat with SavvyASL Savannah Dahan

Savannah is a ten years old Deaf performance artist who was born with moderate to severe hearing loss. Her parents and siblings are all Deaf, and use American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate. At an early age, Savannah's parents exposed her to music through the beautiful art of sign language. Since then, she has signed a number of top chart hits, starting with Carrie Underwood's "The Champion"that amassed more than 10 million views within a week and resulted in Carrie Underwood inviting Savannah to her October 4th concert. She was featured on CBS, NBC, and ABC's "Good Morning America," to name a few.
