Connect with your cluster by phone, email, in-person, and/or through the OMO Creative Cluster Facebook group.
  • Cooking Club: meet up to try batch cooking, new recipes, and taste test homemade treats with new friends.
  • Home Organizers: tackle your spaces with a partner who can help you distinguish between your most treasured things from the “stuff” that needs to go.
  • Gardening Gals: since it’s spring and everything is coming back to life, NOW is the best time to go plant shopping and make a landscape plan or a develop a small veggie garden. Join up with others and get digging!
  • New Hobby Helper: have you wanted to try ceramics, rollerblading, golf, knitting, or something else fun and relaxing? Maybe it’s intimidating to learn on your own, but if you teach each other, you’ll all become masters together.
  • Walking Women: wanna walk and talk all around town? This is a local adventure with a partner or two and all you need is a pair of sneakers!

The Light We Carry: Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey Netflix Special the conversation between Obama and Winfrey highlights much of the book's content and gives you the feeling like you're sitting in at Obama's "kitchen table" for some real talk.

Retreat Schedule
At OMO retreats, everything is optional; give yourself permission to participate as much or as you little as you need. 
  • Whole Group Gatherings meet in the Burger Room (unless otherwise noted), our main gathering space. These gatherings bring all of us together to listen and talk through guided topics.
  • Workshops meet in the Burger Room and will have a presenter guiding the activity or discussion. 
  • Independent Time is just that--time for you to process what you've learned during workshops in whatever way suits you best
  • Movement sessions may be held in the Burger Room or outside. 

Friday 
  • 3:00pm: Check-in begins
  • Independent Exploration of the retreat center or Casual Gathering in Burger Room
  • 5pm: Whole Group Gathering
    Introductions and Setting Intentions for the Weekend

    Get to know the retreat leaders and each other in introvert- and extrovert-friendly conversations, then we'll dive into what we want for the weekend away.
  • 6:00-7:00pm: Dinner
    (Attendees with dietary restrictions--have one of the OMO team introduce you to the catering staff to verify your dietary needs)
  • 7:00pm: Whole Group Gathering
    Recognizing Our Light

    This weekend away is about connecting with ourselves and bringing forward our favorite parts of ourselves. 
*On-site massages available on a first-come, first-served basis from 2-6pm (additional fee)


Saturday
Saturday-Sunday attendees are asked to join us by 8:30am. We've got some great content planned for right after breakfast and want you to have time to settle in and take care of any "housekeeping" needs before the workshops begin. Bags can be stored until afternoon check-in.
  • 8:00-9:30am: Breakfast 
    ​(Saturday-Sunday attendees with dietary restrictions--have one of the OMO team introduce you to the catering staff to verify your dietary needs)
  • 9:30am: Whole Group Gathering 
    Recognizing the Lights Around Us

    What gifts do we have to share with our community? What needs do we have in our lives for connections outside our immediate family and friend circles? 
  • 10:45am: Workshop 1
    The Way Out is Through: how to face hard feelings

    Corinne Heiliger, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, will help us explore how we handle hard feelings like anger and grief, plus give us techniques for when we're processing strong feelings
  • 12:00-1:00pm Lunch
  • 1:00pm: Workshop 2
    Going High

    Through listening and then discussing Chapter 10 of  The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama, we will continue the conversation about facing difficult feelings and building our support system
  • 2:00pm: Workshop 3
    Acupuncture

    Kristin Huza of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine of Maryland will offer an introduction to acupuncture and offer some basic care techniques to those interested
  • 3:00pm: Workshop 4
    Draw Yourself Calm

    Hannah Vogel will guide us as we learn ways to process our emotions through meditative drawings
  • 4:00-6:00pm Independent Time 
    This is time for you to explore the Self-Guided Activities introduced during the Whole Group Gathering. Other options: continue with meditative drawing, rest, nap, exercise, gather for a chat, craft, or whatever your brain and body need in this moment. 
  • 6:00-7:00pm Dinner
  • 7:15pm Whole Group Gathering
    Book Discussion of The Light We Carry

    From "maternal perfection" to code switching to anxiety to the realities of long-term romantic and platonic relationships, Michelle Obama gives us plenty to talk about. 
  • 8:15pm Whole Group Gathering
    Tending The Light That We Carry

    Part of tending to ourselves is learning to release what is no longer serving us. We will gather outside around the fire pit (weather permitting).
  • 9:30-10:00pm Movement
    Sleepytime Yoga

    Certified yoga instructor Rashida George will lead us through some gentle movements to help us release the day and get restorative sleep
*On-site massages available on a first-come, first-served basis from 9am-6pm (additional fee)

Sunday
  • 8:00-9:30am: Breakfast
  • 9:30am: Whole Group Gathering
    Creative Clusters

    This session ties in with the Saturday morning Whole Group Gathering. We will learn about Creative Clusters, then gather with those who signed up for the same book/activity groups for guided work on next steps.
  • 10:45-11:00am: Check Out
    Room Checkout must be done by 11:00am, return key cards to front desk, luggage can be stored in our meeting room (Burger) or your car
  • 11:15-11:45am Movement
    Celebrating Ourselves Through Movement
    Rebecca Beall will lead us through energizing movements that connect us with our bodies and remind of us of our strengths
  • 12:00-1:00pm Lunch 
  • 1:00pm Whole Group Gathering: Closing
    Restoration, Reconnection, and Renewal plus Next Steps
    We will close out the retreat with reflections on what we learned about ourselves during the weekend and what ideas we'll take with us
  • 2:00-5:00pm: Retreat Center is available for you to explore
